About Haiti Poster Project Process

Firstly, I intended to design in another way, but not using the map. I though about the letters Haiti and change it in to such a way that people can imagine about the massive earthquake. I broke the letter H apart to make it like a broken bridge, letter a was rotated in another way and put on the road as spoil car, letter t was cut the bottom as the cross on a grave and letter i was also horizontal rotated and put on the road as dead people. However, since I began to design, I look it is too abstract and the result was also not good. Another idea came immediately, when I did a research about Haiti and saw the Haiti’s map. Then I began design again by taking this map and change some of big cities in this map to the things that Haiti people must face after earthquake. And finally, my final poster came out as you see.

Typeface - Futura

Actually, there is no font so call “My favorite font”. In my opinion, font is equipment in which you can use or handle it in right time, right place, and right event. It only expresses the “Beauty” or full meaning since it matches our idea. However, in this writing, the font I will write about is Futura. Following to my research, it quite special I think, the history, the geometry design that related to circle; triangle; square; curve…

Back to the past, Futura was born in period 1924-1926 by Paul Renner and in 1927 Futura became commercial font. It belongs to Geometric Sans-Serif typeface. For the original published, the Futura type-family including Light, Medium, Bold, and Bold Oblique font. Then gradually from 1930 to 1955, Book, Book Oblique, Extra Bold, and Extra Bold Italic font that relate to Futura came out by Edwin W. Shaar and Tommy Thompson. And other members we can count are Regular, Light Oblique, Light Condensed, Book Bold, Medium Oblique, Medium Condensed, Bold Condensed, Semibold, Semibold Italic, Extrabold Condensed, Inline, Display and Black.

The interesting thing is when Futura was released; it automatically became representative visual elements of the Bauhaus design style due to its design based on geometric sharps, although Paul Renner had no relation with Bauhaus.

Typo Exercise

Finally, wao @@ … this’s the remix poster. I’ve taken the ideas of contrast in colors to indicate the meaning of two sides (original: Left, Right; remix: North, South), the motions through symbols from the original image. However, in my remix poster, I expressed the motion through typography (two lines on the top and bottom). So…enjoy !!!

Restful —- Restless

These two pics are coming out quite accidentally. while playing organ, I noticed the keyboard and wonder why I don’t try it. The result, according to me, it’s not bad ^^’. I feel the motions in these keys (Pic 2), they are seem moving forward and intersect each other at … infinity. with the same idea, I came to create a restful image (Pic 1). I tried on my laptop’s keyboard. I recognized each of letter is kept in a solid square, then the square itself is held by the base or stable in layers

Motions and Chaos !!!

Just click to third link and navigate to page two, this poster had jumped in to my eyes. It’s quite impressive I think. There are a lot of components inside with little space or “narrow white space” plus the pointing arrows makes these things seem breath in hurry and together with the combination of different colors on “Left, Right”, I can feel the movements or the hurry in the campaign nomination, the contradictory policies between two parties and the competitions with chaos in the racing in to the Government without notice in the explanations. About the typography, if we observe only the texts in this poster, we may think they are normal. They are just “in order”, convey and deliver meaning to readers to emphasize the differences of two parties. However, these texts are not special alone but special in the connection with the components (figures) to generate these characteristics above.

One thing I disagree is the colors which the designer uses for this poster although he wants to mentions the conflictions of the Left and Right parties. The symbol for “Left” is Dove, somehow like moderate party so it should be in blue and “Right” is Hawk which is high competitive should be in red. In my opinion, the reason why the designer put the red color for Left parties just because there is communist inside and the color of the communist’s flag is red also.

Intro

Multimedia…how to say @@ uhmm…it’s quite interesting and colorful. Actually, I’ve graduated in Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) before I come to design. During this time, I was impressed by a guy who lived in the same house with me studied multimedia. I was interested in the animations from his flash files, the colors and nice organizations from his webpage, the beautiful images by using Photoshop and a lot of amazing visual and special effects which he used for his videos rather than mine, it’s like a circle and quite boring, routing the PCB board or electronic board then soldering variety of electronic components and finally programming this electronic device. That’s why after graduated, I went back to VN and chose Multimedia for my further study but not going to work. And after experienced one semester in this new area, I think it’s ok and I totally satisfied with my choice.
